In any secure perimeter, the greatest vulnerabilities are generally agreed to be the access points — entrances and exits. Most of the perimeter does one job all the time: it keeps people out. Access points must allow authorized people and vehicles to enter, while still being able to exclude everyone else, even preventing forced entry. To accomplish the task, several types of "active barriers" have been developed, movable or retractable obstructions that resist penetration by high speed crashes.
